I would do more online research before I purchased just for that purpose. Those stations used to be provided as clear QAM, but now the cable companies scramble them. Can't have you saving something you already paid to watch! (Sarcasm.): ) What this means is that if you live in an area where you get good signal from an antenna and you just want local stations, that's a cheaper route to go. If you live too far out and want to record local station shows (ABC, CBS, etc.), you could use one of these to get those recorded as they come through your cable provider.
