Like most secret cults, confraternities and similar groups, members of NBM aka Black Axe cult ( for a general introduction see ) use special items and expressions to describe themselves and others, the structures within the group and so on. Axeman: Members of NBM refer to each other as axemen (or alternatively lord, bam, amigos, wise/strong men). Lord: a graduate member. Aye: a campus member, also known as “Temple Aye”. Those are known for gang wars, cult killings and rape at Nigerian universities. The term “aye” is also used as a greeting among members.
Aye is an abbreviation of “African Youth Empowerment”. Blending/Bamming: initiation into the cult. Bam is also used as an expression of approval (“you bam”). @ brave Bros, thank you for your comment. Of course not EVERY individual member of NBM is a criminal. But their proportion is much, much higher than in the rest of the population (Just because others commit the same crimes doesn’t make it more acceptable, does it??). I would estimate that about 80-90% of them are involved in some sort of crime. And that should make us think about the reasons.
Here is my opinion: 1) Judge them by what they ARE, not by what they CLAIM to be. NBM claims to have a good ideology and to be a movement. Both is untrue. NBM never was and never will be a movement. It was created with the main purpose of fighting the Pyrates, and the “ideology” was only added for the good looks of it.
While the ideology as such may be good (albeit somewhat outdated), it actually has nothing to do with NBM. 2) Members of NBM are humans, yes, and they do err. It’s just that they apparently don’t care when they err in the name of NBM, and they don’t correct their mistakes. NBM as a group is mainly about money and power, and most crimes are probably just a side effect of that. Nothing is really done against the crimes either.
That’s probably because stopping the crime and kicking out criminal members (well only about 10% would be left after that) would interfere with achieving their selfish goals. After all, each member pays to be a member.
And who would kick them out anyway when most of the leadership consists of criminals too? 3) NBM as a group, including the leadership, still promote the bizarre idea of supremacy which is a main reason for the cult clashes. For these reasons I think it is more than justified to say that NBM AS A GROUP is bad. The group is based on a bunch of lies and promotes crime by the way it is and by the way it operates. It’s the exact opposite of the example you gave above about Islam and terrorism – NBM as a group DOES promote, facilitate and encourage crime.

Let me refer you here: There is proof that NBM got numerous slots for government employment in exchange for their help in rigging various elections. The “adults” in the cult are not only big at preaching their delusions, but also benefitting from being cultists in various ways – for example by being promoted into government jobs by election rigging politicians (who are mostly cultists too) or by forming crime cells all over the world. Good morning X-Rated Points of correction: 1) It is not MY invention that NBM was originally created to fight the Pyrates. The founder Ibn Godidi de Saddest himself made this quite clear (see “History of NBM” posts). If you insist that it is a “movement” nowadays I’m sorry to say there is absolutely no evidence of that, nowhere. 2) According to Nigerian Law even 100% of members are criminals. It’s an illegal organization according to the law, thus being a member is illegal, right?
However I was not referring to this. Violence is not the most common crime in NBM. In fact it’s fraud.
You probably know as well as I do that most zones are not much more than 419 cells. You possibly don’t know though that even the 2012-14 NH and NC2 (to name only a few) are 419 boys. So while they may speak out (but not act) against violence, they are busy going about their other crimes themselves.
It’s ridiculous. Furthermore the older members today were yesterday’s killers so their talk against violence somewhat lacks credibility. It’s not as if the violence is a recent development.
